 Additional preparation

Cutting tools : Utility/exacto knife: used to cut tapes, cartons, shock-absorbing materials and wrapping materials, etc.;

Measuring tools: You can use an electronic scale or a digital luggage/hand scale to estimate the weight of the box. You can use a tape measure to measure the volume. Both weight and volume are important factors affecting shipping costs. When you consult, the customer service will let you know the measurements and estimates.

Protective materials for the outside of the box : parcels and fragile items can be wrapped outside the box: Wrapping Film, Foam cushioning for furniture corners, to prevent the suitcase from being scratched and worn during transportation, and to protect and fix it;

Protective materials in the box : When mailing fragile items, such as porcelain, cosmetics, glass bottles , small appliances, etc., you can use VersaPak , Bubbles / Foam Roll , Cushion wrap, etc. for wrapping protection, or fill them with Packing peanuts to reduce shock and resist pressure.

02 Sealing Tutorial

Step 1 | Fold the carton and seal the bottom using the H-sealing method

pack-bottom.png

Open the carton, open it from the middle along the crease, press the box into a cube, and turn the 8 ears outward.

Now turn the bottom of the box upwards, with the short ears inside and the long ears outside, and fold it flat. Use tape to seal the box in the H method and stick the ears at the bottom. It is recommended to stick a layer of tape inside and outside the box. This is just the initial bottom seal. After filling the box and sealing it, reinforce it again.

After pasting, you can turn it over and start putting items in it.

Step 2 | Pack the items and seal using the H-sealing method

pack-top.png

It is recommended to pack different types of items together and try to fill the space in the box. If it cannot be filled, it can be filled with shock and fixing materials. Fragile items and liquids need to be packaged separately or with special safety cushioning reinforcement to prevent leakage and breakage;

After the items are packed and the shock-absorbing and fixing materials are filled, the first layer of sealing is still done by taping the top with the H-sealing method. H-sealing method suggestions: When sealing, leave 5-8cm of tape on the short fold edge to enhance the fit.

If the items in the box are heavy or there are too many items, you can stick 2-3 more layers, overlapping each other, sticking them firmly and scraping them flat to ensure that the glue does not come apart.

Warm Tips: When packing, you can make several copies of the waybill and put them in multiple boxes to prevent them from falling off and being lost.

Step 3 | Reinforced box corners and thickened packaging

pack-side&corners.png

Use overlapping tape to stick to 3 sides, and reinforce the 8 corners of the box. Then wrap the four sides of the box with 2-3 layers of tape. It is recommended that each layer of tape overlap by 1-2cm to ensure that each layer is hung flat and firmly to avoid debonding.

Reinforcement of the 12 sides and 8 corners of the box can better protect the box and reduce the risk of damage to the box.

Finally, wrap the entire box with a layer of tape to reduce the risk of softening and damage to the box due to a humid environment during transportation, and protect the items in the box to the greatest extent.

Warm Tips: Before sealing the box, you can compile a list and photos of the type, quantity, and value of the mailed items for customs clearance. If the items are lost or damaged during transportation, you can use this to retrieve them and claim compensation.

Step 4 | Confirm that the packaging is correct and affix the shipping labels!

pack-labels&pouches.png

Warm suggestion: Make several copies of the waybill and put them in multiple boxes to prevent them from falling off and getting lost. It is recommended to use a marker to write on the outer box: 1. Name 2. International tracking number (master shipping number) 3. Number of boxes (*ofN) 4. Chinese delivery information

Please be sure to attach the waybill carefully, as it is the most important part of the entire packing and mailing process. If the waybill falls off, the entire box may be lost.

Finally, put the waybill into the FedEx pouch and seal it. There is double-sided tape on the back of the pouch. Tear off the back and stick it firmly on the carton to ensure that the waybill will not fall off and clearly display the waybill number, barcode and other information.

For items that cannot be attached, such as suitcases, you can use tags to tie the mail bag to the handle.

Each international waybill consists of three parts: the master waybill, the secondary waybill and the customer invoice. All three materials need to be sealed in a FedEx pouch. One waybill number corresponds to one box. FedEx staff will take some of the materials away for record keeping.

Please strictly follow the waybill affixing specifications, firmly affix the waybill on the top or side of the luggage, and then reinforce it with tape to prevent it from falling off.

Carefully check the "Prohibited Items List" and properly handle prohibited items in the package in advance.

Luggage list : The type, quantity, usage, etc. of each box should be recorded in text and photos for customs clearance, inspection and claims

Marking on the outside of the box : For items with special handling requirements, when mailing domestically, the cartons or packages should be clearly marked with the following: handling and placement requirements to avoid damage during transportation.

Packaging ideas :

  • Mix and pack, try to fill the space as much as possible, if it is not full, please fill it with cushioning materials.

  • It is recommended to lay waterproof material at the bottom of each box, and try to use plastic packaging bags and packaging boxes. All scattered items can be integrated into the packaging boxes, and small parts can be packed in packaging bags and pasted or bundled together with large parts to prevent dust, water, moisture and loss.

  • Heavy items should be packed in small boxes, light items in large boxes. Heavy and hard items should be placed at the bottom as much as possible, and compression-resistant and hard items should be placed in the four corners and walls. Fragile items should be packed separately, boxed, and then put into the box. Fragile items should be packed in the same box with soft items, and not with heavy items to avoid being squeezed and damaged.

  • Moving is a time to let go of things. Before packing and throwing away, you may want to set a cool-off period to think about what to keep and what to discard.

Suggestions for mailing items :

  • Any old items within the reasonable range of personal use can be mailed, including but not limited to: old clothes, shoes, hats, bags, old stationery, daily necessities, books, and a small amount of cosmetics.

  • New products and luxury goods : It is not recommended to mail them back to China! Regardless of whether there is a packaging tag and invoice, the probability of being taxed is high.

  • Printed materials/books : Customs stipulates that books below 10 are tax-free, and 10-50 books are taxed at the discretion of the buyer (20-30 books is normal for students). Books above 50 are not taxed, and personal notes are not counted.

  • Fragile items : Not recommended for mailing! If you want to mail, be very careful when packing, wrap it with multiple layers of pressure-resistant and shock-absorbing materials, and mix it with soft pressure-resistant items. International transportation insurance generally targets lost items and pays less compensation.

  • Electronic products : Regardless of whether they are new or old, electronic products are subject to customs taxation. Although you can declare a low amount, it is recommended that you bring them back to China in your carry-on luggage. This includes but is not limited to: mobile phones, computers, speakers, cameras, etc.

Clothing/Bedding/Dolls

Classification and repackaging : Tops, pants, socks, scarves, etc. should be classified, divided by thickness, folded flat, and packed in plastic bags, vacuum bags, and repackaging bags to prevent dust, water, and moisture. If the conditions for repackaging are not met, the inside of the box can be treated to prevent moisture as a whole, and plastic film can be placed before placing the clothes.

Use vacuum compression bags : Large and fluffy items such as coats, sweaters, bedding, towels, dolls, etc. can be folded flat and put into vacuum bags. Use a vacuum cleaner or vacuum pump to extract the air, compress the volume, and then put them into cartons.

Pay attention to check the airtightness of the vacuum bag : When using vacuum bags to pack boxes, do not overfill the boxes, reserve buffer space, and do not pump the vacuum bag too flat. If the vacuum bag leaks during transportation, it will cause the carton to deform or even break.

Situations where vacuum bags are not recommended : Boxes, bags, shoes, suits, dresses, top hats, etc. that are easily wrinkled, easily deformed, and cannot be ironed, or clothing with sharp parts, etc., which can easily puncture the vacuum bag and leak air, causing the carton to deform and break.
